…Stone’s Fall by Iain Pears. It’s historical fiction set in Venice and Paris – two cities with romantic histories and settings. What’s not to like? The plotting is brilliant: Three storytellers and a tortuous plot that is pieced together back and forth over many decades. No resolution until the very end, and then there’s a wrenching twist. Terrific book!

I confess I’ve not read it. In fact, I’ve never read this author. Should I start with this?
It’s his most recent book, I think. And probably his most accessible. I’ve also read ‘An Instance of the Fingerpost’ 17th century) and ‘The Dream of Scipio’ (3 timelines: Roman Empire, Medieval, WWII). ‘Stone’s Fall’ is my favorite. Such an intelligent writer!!!
